Face-to-Face for 1129 Scribes
We finally met as a whole team! It’s so different to see a person face-to-face for the first time, even though you’ve “met” nearly every week for ages. A little video box on a 10″ x 18″ screen just doesn’t cut it as much as a group hug can!
The 1129 Scribes, comprised of Joy Massenburge, Paula Peckham, Deena Adams, and me, are a small, but mighty band of four women writers living within hours of each other. Correction, three of us do, but our fourth member lives several states away. We know what each other looks like through our online critique group but have never met as a collective in person. That is, until the ACFW National Conference in St. Louis in August 2023. The four of us got to meet face-to-face for the very first time as a group!
It felt a little silly at the beginning to give our group an actual name, draw up guidelines and loose requirements, even sign “contracts” to keep each other on track. But we decided if we were going to take this endeavor seriously, than we needed to treat it as a true part of our writing lives. So far, so good.
What better name for this little assembly of four than that which He has called us for? “For the gifts and call of God are irrevocable.” Romans 11:29
Additionally, we chose Scribes for the writer’s heart in each of us. Currently, we’re comprised of fiction and non-fiction writers; romance, historical romance, mystery, and women’s fiction. Published and unpublished (so far – but don’t blink, those publications are around the corner), business women, pastors wives and wives in general, mothers, grandmothers, speakers, event planners, etc., etc., etc. … whew, and that’s all wrapped up in just the four of us. As said earlier, small but mighty.
