About Me
First and foremost, you may be wondering about the CLeaRly Creative Community. If you’ve been around awhile, you know this website went from “Up in the Attic” to the Fledgling Writers Community. Then … well, then, 2020 hit and I just couldn’t pivot fast enough with the equipment and the style of classes we held to bring everything online. So I didn’t. (More on that for another day.)
Over the last few years the CLeaRly Creative Community (not a typo, CLR are my initials) has been percolating, along with finishing my first novel, as well as writing a handful of short stories and novelettes. I’ve got some exciting things in store, feel free to visit often!
Writing mysteries stitched together with a dash of romance and a slash of death!
I love making up tales about Jennifer Clark and her Lilac Lane Fashions family. She’s a fashion designer and the protagonist of my first series. I am currently contracted to Elk Lake Publishing, Inc. for the first three novels. Publication of my debut novel is currently scheduled for mid-2025.
(Continued on next column)
In addition to these upcoming novels, I already have one of my minis* in publication with the Cozy Mystery Tribe and Aconite Press. “It’s Beginning to Look a Llama Like Christmas,” in the A Prob-Llama of a Holiday anthology was such a fun story to write.
Holding a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Grand Valley State University (before the U designation came to be), with additional classes in Fashion Merchandising from Grand Rapids Community College (both in Michigan), it seems creativity runs deep in my veins.
With Michigan roots and Texas shoots, my accent gives me away as a northerner in my adopted homebase. Born just outside of the Windy City but mostly raised in the Great Lakes state, I’m now working on earning my Texas boots. It’s only half in jest that I call myself a Texagander Gal.

Things You May Not Know
These may help explain the chaotic, eclectic, creative person you’ll find within these pages.
Curiousity, Creativity, and Community (builder). That’s me. Other words that might help get a handle on who I am are Eclectic and just a bit Eccentric. I am perfectly okay with that. It’s made this website a bit hard to pin down sometimes as I have an interest in so many things, but also contributes to the fun things you’ll discover around here.
I’m a boy mom who had to learn about (and sort of like) snakes, reptiles, bugs, airplanes, sports, and things that go fast. For years I drove a mini van. Not to cart my two kids but to schlep all their gear around (along with a couple Bearded Dragons – both of whom my boys leash-trained!).
My GPS is my best friend! I have a horrible sense of direction. I can get lost in my backyard. No lie! To be fair, that backyard was 22 acres of dense woods.
Although I love learning new ways, I can be a little “old school” sometimes when it comes to formality, even in my writing. I guess that comes from being an office admin in male-centric businesses for more years than I can count. Add in a stint as a journalist on top of that. Associated Press Style dictates a person to first be introduced in in print by their full name than use of surname thereafter. Sigh, but it stuck. If you see some weird formatting of names and/or numbers … that’s probably why.
My happy place is wherever and whenever I’m creating.
I served a year as the State Representative of Mother of Young Children for Missouri through American Mothers, Inc., back in the day (as well as president of the local chapter). Half the year of that honor was served while living in Michigan because of an employment related move partway through my term. My favorite keepsake from that time is a letter written by my husband, Mr. A, about me as a mother.
My first major speaking presentation and Mistress of Ceremony event (for a wedding fashion show) was almost my last. It took me nearly twenty years to recover from the anxiety that debacle caused. But that’s a story for another day. Nowadays, even though I may not have a dynamic voice, I am back behind the mic and love to share what I’ve learned with other readers and writers.
Will you find the perfect Christian between these pages and words? Absolutely not. I am a work in His progress. I have a mouth on me (especially when I’m angry). As said elsewhere, I am an eclectic reader and music listener. There is a possibility you will find links to things you won’t agree with. It’s happened before, and I lost readers over it. If I feel it necessary, I will add a note.
Please don’t disregard those notes before you click on a link.
I do not link willy-nilly. There is always a learning and/or talking point to why I share something. The links are there for further information or discussion topics … IF you want further information.
I have colleagues, family, and friends from nearly every walk of life, creed, color, political affiliation, gender, etc., etc. etc. In that same vein, you are welcome here ~ being a work in His progress right along side me. We can all be respectful of differences.
I rarely, if ever, post about my family – especially photos. This writing life is not theirs. But I do refer to them from time to time. I am wife to Mr. A and mom to two adult sons who I refer to as Older and Younger. The three of them are my joy and my strength.
My Favorites
“Once you become fearless, you become limitless.”
Quote attributed to: Tracy Malone - author, speaker and narcissist abuse coach
That quote is on one of my favorite t-shirts, in fact the one I wear in many of the professional photos on this site, taken by the talented Sheila Stone Photographer.
I’m not to the fearless stage (yet) but I’m working on it. What my shirt doesn’t say is I’ve become more independent and fearless as I work toward becoming more dependent on Him. ~Psalm 71:1-3
I’m a WIP (Work In [His] Progress) for sure!
Color: PURPLE! (As if you couldn’t tell.) A close second is green, especially lime.
Flower: Lilacs! And I miss them so much now that I live in Texas, but I’ve found ways to bring them into my life and writing.
Book: The Listener by Taylor Caldwell. I have an idea why this particular book grabbed me as a teenager and hasn’t let me go since, but I don’t want to give it away in case you’ve never read it. I generally don’t read books more than once but I’ve read this one at least three times (maybe four?) and it’s on my TBR pile again.
Place: Anywhere there’s water, especially Lake Michigan!
Reading spot: in a hammock, on a back porch, accompanied by a soft breeze and a cold drink of lemonade, iced tea, or ice water. (Sometimes a hot cup of tea and a soft, fuzzy blanket.)
Pastime: reading, crafting, traveling, spending time with my guys.
